Installing Maltego on Ubuntu

From the website:

Maltego is an open source intelligence and forensics application. It allows for the mining and gathering of information as well as the representation of this information in a meaningful way.

Coupled with its graphing libraries, Maltego, allows you to identify key relationships between information and identify previously unknown relationships between them. It is a must-have tool in the forensics.security and intelligence fields!

Maltego offers the user with unprecedented information.  Information is leverage.

Interesting? Of course, download the Maltego Community Edition here

Make sure you already install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.6

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java-plugin sun-java6-bin

I put the downloaded Maltego on /home/t0m/download/

Now, run the installer with command:

sudo java -jar MaltegoInstaller-[version]-CE.jar

First-thing-first, run Maltego on the default installation folder:

/usr/local/MaltegoCE/bin/maltego

make it easy to access by creating a symbolic link to default path:

sudo ln -s /usr/local/MaltegoCE/bin/maltego /usr/local/bin/maltego

done, you can now run maltego by typing maltego on terminal

You should run Maltego from the installation directory, or edit the Ubuntu Alacarte Menu Editor to point that Maltego binary, also don’t forget the absolute path.

I’m sorry for this mistake instruction..maltego cannot run as symlink, you should run it from their working directory.
      e.g.
      cd /usr/local/MaltegoCE/bin/
      ./maltego

of course i will edit the tutorial up there..thank’s
